Public and stakeholder consultation
This project emphasizes effective consultation with the general public, owners of businesses, planning authorities and others that are likely to have an opinion on how the center of Akureyri could be revitalized. The purpose is to ensure that scope of the comptetition is realistic and to reveal issues that must be addressed by the ideas submitted. As a side benefit, this consultation effort is likely to stimulate discussion amongst the public and stakeholders on relevant issues and actions.
The consultation effort comprises several meetings where the ideas and concerns of the participants are solicited in a systematic manner using written notes. This ensures a balanced flow of information unimpeded by an individual's aversion to public speaking. There are also "hands on planning" groups that work over a town map to sketch out issues and actions geographically.
On September 18th, the public was invited to participate in a community planning day where a number of sessions of the type mentioned above will be held on the various aspects of the town center of Akureyri and Akureyri in general.
The competition brief reflects the outcome of the consultation meetings, both directly as a summary of results and indirectly by influencing the criteria set for the competition.
The consultation effort is managed by Alta Consulting in cooperation with John Thompson and Partners. |
